HDWSBBL BLOODBOWL SUPERBOWL CUP

Well the Huntingdon District Wargames Society Bloodbowl League has finally ended. After a long hard slog decimating teams left right and centre with my Atrocity Exhibition Undead team I finally won the Old World Conference Cup gaining me access to the overall Superbowl.

The winner of the New World Conference who would be my opponent was my good friend Adrian who is a fantastic Bloodbowl coach and did absolutely awesome this season, especially as he began with a Starter Vampire team.

So after a few niggly weeks where real life and work got in the way, we both finally met to duke it out on the pitch.

Atrocity Exhibition vs Nachtafen Nightlords

The weather was very sunny and the commentators were debating whether the weather would affect the Vampires performance in the game. They had to practically shout as the roar of the blatantly advantageous undead crowd!

The teams set up and the Nightlords kick to Atrocity, the ball goes high and a Ghoul dashes up and collects it. Atrocity drive slowly towards the Vampires endzone trying to maximize the ammount of damage they can do.

Straight away two Thralls are KO'd and a Vampire Lusting for Blood charges off to find a willing virgins neck (fat chance in Huntingdon !!!) Atrocity's Star Wight Blitzes and KO's another Vampire. The Nightlords incensed finally get their plays together and a Vampire Blitzes the Ghoul with the ball and leaves him Stunned, the ball bounces free and another spare Vampire dodges in to collect it. (I made a terrible error here as thought I had left my Ghoul out of range of a Blitz and this nearly cost me the whole game straight away)

The Nightlords move the ball upfield, but a Thrall trips over a trailing bandage from a Mummy and CAS's himself. Atrocity pile into the Nightlords and a Zombie piles onto a prone Vampire with the ref calling foul. However the Vampire is CAS's but somehow manages to Regen (must have serious Factor 100 sunblock on)

A Zombie gets a good hit on a Thrall and gets a CAS then the Nightlords Vampire with the ball goes hurtling towards Atrocitys endzone, only a small extra step to score........but he stumbles.....he gains his balance....no, he's falling...he hits the ground with a wet smack and the ball flies off the end of the pitch. The fans launch the ball back into the centre of the pitch and a waiting Ghoul nods his thanks to relatives in the crowd and leaps over the opposition and dashes downfield, dancing madly as he hits the endzone to score TOUCHDOWN!!! 1-0 Atrocity.

2nd Half and Atrocity kick. The crowd still in a fervor after Atrocitys Zombie was sent off decide to take their anger out of the ref! The Nightlords attempt to drive the ball but Atrocity match them step for step, Thrall's are CAS'd all over the pitch until a Vampire KO's a Zombie. Atrocity finding this unacceptable get their Wight to Blitz the Vampire, which he does causing a CAS, the persistant Vampires Regen again. A Mummy slams another Thrall right of the pitch and the Wight Blitzes the Nightlords Vampire who is carrying the ball. The Vampire is crunched and the ball pops free. A Ghoul collects the ball and a Zombie fouls the prone Vampire and CAS's it.

A Mummy stands right in the way of a Thrall and the result is a CAS's Thrall. The Nightlords are decimated, they only have one player left on the pitch and Atrocitys Ghoul skips in to score their second TOUCHDOWN!! 2-0 Atrocity.

Salute 2013 Part 2 - The Loot

Ok Part 2 of my Salute 2013 adventure and this part shows off all the lovely hobby goodness that I managed to take possession of.

I went to this years show with a very specific shopping list in mind and was not going to alleviate from it one bit, no shiney magpie moments...no sir...honest...ok who am I kidding...the list went out the window the minute I started shopping, and although I got most of what was on it I also ended up with some completely different items.

I mainly didnt get any buildings or terrain that I originally wanted!

My first pile of goodies were the New 7th Voyage rules and token set from the lovely people at Crooked Dice Karl, Morgan, Helena and the rest are a fantastic bunch and I love their products. I also picked up a print copy (as I already have the PDFs) of the 7tv Heroes Programme Guide, a smashing weighty tome!

Next up was a trip over to Wayland Games to pick up a Relics starter set (Vaettir, nasty evil elementals and fairies) which also gained me a free Relics blister pack, plus I managed to get a nice free handful of Relics faction dice as well.

Browsing Caliver Books netted me a German Army Forces book for Bolt Action, I play Fallschirmjager so this was a welcome purchase (and I got it half price)

One of my Shiney Moments was seriously influenced by the setting for Salute 2013, Jason and the Argonauts. This was further enchanced with the demo game I had of 7th Voyage at Crooked Dice's stand, so onto Wargames Foundy and a couple of packs of Argonaut miniatures found their way into my possession. I also ordered both packs of the Children of the Hydra (Greek Mythology Skeletons) which I am waiting on being posted to me.

I also managed to further my Argonaut project by obtaining Osprey's Myths and Legends Jason and the Argonauts book as well as half a dozen of the plastic special Salute Jason miniature (thanks to everyone who passed me an extra figure that they didnt want/require)

The Salute dice will also fit in nicely as they have an etched Athenian/Argonaut Helmet as the 6!

Bushido is another one of my favourite games, a fast paced fantsy oriental skirmish game from GCT Studios which has evolved from its initial start. So I collected a new Dai Bakemono for my Savage Wave and all the new stat cards for the initial four factions.

I had recently pledged my support for Mongoose Publishing Judge Dredd Miniature Game kickstarter and went over to chat away to Matt Sprange. Matt had the new resin Manta Prowl tank on display, which is an immense piece (pics to come in a forthcoming Salute post) and I came away with an extra set of World Judges. These are great and depict Judges from other Mega Cities like Hondo Cit, Emerald Isle, Luxor and the Vatican City.

Last but by no means least, not exactly a purchase but winning loot - A Golden Ninja. This was won for being the best Ninja during the first participation game of Tenchu Assassins hosted by Wargames Soliders & Strategy Magazine.

This was a real fun game setting 4 Ninja's on various missions and used a card sytem similar to Muskets and Tommahawks for movement and reactions etc..

The Golden Ninja !

Overall not a bad wee haul, and still came home with a couple of quid in me back pocket!

Salute 2013 Part 1 - The Bloggers Meet Up

Salute 2013 this year was fantastic. For me it was one of the best I have been to for various reasons.  I got there fairly early and had a pre-paid ticket but I still didnt expect to be as near to the beginning of the queue as I was. I had nothing to put on the Bring and Buy this year so that probably adds to the fact that I enjoyed Salute more as I had more time to join in participation games and browse the traders (read ... buy lots of stuff and have wild eyed magpie shiney moments)

Anyway as part 1 of the Salute posts, it had been bandied around blog land following last year's success, that Ray and Fran were organising another meetup of bloggers this year. By organised, I mean that Ray posted the invite to meet up on his blog that bloggers could all meet up in a certain location at 1 pm.

So at the appointed time over I wandered and saw a veritable plethora of happy/tired/bewildered/demented (*deleted appropriate description) bloggers. A very friendly bunch and I was pleased to meet not only a lot of bloggers that I have followed but also the mad fools that have been foloowing my meagre efforts for the last year.

Whats is the collective term for a load of old bloggers?

Postie, Me, Big Lee, Tamsin

At least 20 odd bloggers met up in the seating area next to the B&B. I did not get to speak to everybody but here are some of the ones that turned up that I remember:

Micheal Awdrey - 28mm Victorian Warfare
Mike Whitaker - Trouble at the Mill
The Dark Templar - The Dark Templar
Sydney Roundwood - Sidney Roundwood
Ashley - Paint it Pink
Simon - Big Red Bat
Tamsin - Wargaming Girl

Operation Paradigm Shift at Tabletop Nation - MERCS - Battle Reports

In conjunction with Beasts of War and Tabletop Nation MERCS Miniatures held a Worldwide Campaign.

April 13th and the FCC have with House 9 taking the lead commenced Operations to destabilise and liquidate the main Worldwide Corporations. With numerous forces both convenional and covert moving out of the Lost Margin the fight has been taking to the Megacons direct. FCC have also managed to sow infiltrators throughout the Corporations forcing them to also take major combat action against opposing MERCS units.

The world is aflame with Espionage, Sabotage and Direct all out Conflict, FCC hope to rise above the Corporations and possibly see the mighty Global Empires fall!

*****Hockly.Essex.England.EU.Inc Zone*****

Location: Destroyed Scientific Research Centre by Abandoned Flyover:
Mission: Control Points.
Forces: Kemvar vs Texico.

Both MegaCons have sent MERCS units to take control of various points around the centre which will give valuable assets to keep either MegaCon fluid in the Global Market.

Both forces started quickly bounding toward the closest control points, however the Kemvar MERCS tripped a trap that had been set up by Texico. A huge explosion ripped across the area and as the smoke cleared both the Kemvar Heavy and Monkeywrench had been blooded by Frag and the Monkeywrench couldnt move as his armour had been broken, his active camo fritzing allowing the Texico forces to make him out more clearly.

Both sides take control quickly of the nearest points and Kemvars Heavy being set, lets rip with a combined hail of fire and takes out the Texico Leader, a small yelp is heard as the Dog runs off with its tail between its legs. The Monkeywrench uses his repair kits and shimmers out of sight again. Texico's Sniper tries to get into positon but the Kemvar Sniper draws a bead on him moving a puts a round right between his eyes.

Both sides now are heavily contesting the central control point and MERCS are being blooded on both sides. Kemvar's Assassin moves from the central point and tries to take out the Texico Jaguar but cant sneak into the rear and only bloods him. Kemvars Sniper gets into an elevated position and takes aim on Texico's Jaguar who is holding a control point and kills him, although Texico's Heavy is still in possession of the Point.

Kemvars Leader now moves around a building and charges Texico's heavy and cuts him down with his energy sword, but Texico's Demo has snuck round and blasts Kemvars Monkeywrench in the face with his shotgun and takes hold of the Contol Point that the Monkeywrench was holding.

With darkness falling and both sides heavily blooded or damaged they take stock of the assets gained and mutually declare a Draw.

*****Hockley.Essex.England.EU.Inc Zone*****

Location: Destroyed Scientific Research Centre by Abandoned Flyover:
Mission: Attack and Defend.
Forces: ISS vs Kemvar.

After Texico had retreated from the area due to a high casualty count, Kemvar's forces contained and controlled the area. Data feeds from the Board suggested that ISS had nefarious forces in the area after an amphibious storming near Southend, which had been seen heavy fighting due to a CCC deep insertion mission.

Kemvars MERCS set up a defensive perimeter and awaited the ISS attack. ISS needed to destroy the defending forces to cripple Kemvar and push up energy prices for sea lane usage giving them more Oceananic control.

ISS enter the combat area under the flyover with their Wavefinder attempting to set up the Auto-Turret on the flyover, howvever the Kemvar Sniper takes a well aimed longshot and cripples her armour and makes her bleed out.

Kemvars leader takes a gamble and shoots at the Wavefinder as well, and grins as a loose round nicks through the broken armour and causes another wound. The ISS seeing the hail of rounds flying high towards the Wavefinder, hunker down and snap to cover, slowly moving towards the Kemvar positions.

The Kemvar Sniper, now reloaded with a lethal round, puts it right into the torso of the static Wavefinder, dropping her where she stood!

The ISS leader moves into a bad position and the Kemvar Heavy nicely set, sends a steady stream of rounds into him, shredding his shield and slaughtering him. The ISS Booster jacks up and moves around the flank only to be blooded repeatedly by the Monkeywrench and Kemvar Leader.

The Assassin sneaks up and makes a rear assault on the ISS Sniper and kills him and then the Booster is finally sent to his maker by a Kemvar bullet.

ISS's Heavy finally manages to get a lightening strike on the Kemvar Assassin. It bloods the Assassin and breaks his armour but arcs back and shocks the Heavy to death!

ISS forces have not only been replused but have been totally wiped out. Kemvar Victory.

*****Hockley.Essex.England.EU.Inc Zone*****

Location: Destroyed Scientific Research Centre by Abandoned Flyover:
Mission: Control Points.
Forces: CCC vs Kemvar.

After repulsing the ISS threat so decisively, the Kemvar forces consolidated their position and after receiving intelligence reports, prepared to engage CCC forces that had been moving inland. CCC were under the impression that the science station had more resources than originally believed. Kemvar just wanted to control the data packets they had already obtained.

Both sides came into contact and Kemvars Heavy after setting early lets rip and bloods the CCC Heavy forcing him into cover and setting out of postion. The CCC Demo Assault Trooper with his internal comms possibly on the fritz finds himself to far forward from his colleagues and is charged by the Kemvar Leader who seriously wounds him and breaks his armour. The Kemvar Heavy hearing instructions from his Leader lets rip at the Demo and with his armour unable to protect him, the Demo is killed.

Kemvars Sniper has steadily been repulsor tagging CCC MERCS and trying to seperate the CCC Medic from aiding his friends. Kemvars Leader not waiting to reply on tech to assist, charges into the Medic instead and deals some serious damage.

A prolonged fire-fight is conducted across the battle area with numerous MERCS on each side slowly blooded. Kemvars Assassin who has slowly moved around the area now gets into position and takes out the CCC Medic.

With CCC forces now actively challenging the central control point, Kemvars Heavy in a frenzied states lets rip and decimates the CCC MERCS, taking out not only the Heavy but also the Incinerator but catches his own Assassin in the crossfire.

However Kemvar stand victorious again at the end of the encounter.

The Hunger Games trilogy box set. I briefly saw this film but not all the way through and alot of people have said the books are good. Thats my nect couple of night shifts sorted anyway.

The Devils Disciples. Hitlers Inner circle documented. Really good book and will go along nicely with my SS/SA and Hitler book collection.

Knight Models Batman Miniature Games miniatures. I got Batman, a blister of Jokers Thugs (waiting on Joker starter set) Penguin Starter set and additional Penguin Thugs. Yet another shiney moment, but will try and make a start on the Penguin stuff soon.

Ancient Rome DVD and magazine boxset from the History Channel. Excellent to go along with my new Gladiator project. Look forward to watching this.

And last but no means least an experience day out. This is for our local Raptor Foundation (Owls etc..) which i absolutely adore. I get to spend the day meeting the birds, feeding them, a full tour of the facility and how it all runs (medical facilities for the birds, training regime, rescue programme etc..) and then I get to work and fly my own Hawk or Owl. I will be probably leaving this until later in the summer, so i can choose a decent warm day.

Overall a very nice birthday with a cracking coffee and walnut cake just to top it off!
